Launched this morning with a press conference, the campaign brings together 114 organizations (list attached), activists, and researchers to call for the dissolution of the Comit\u00e9 des sages charged with advising the Quebec government on its policies towards trans and non-binary people.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organizations denounce that the mandate given to cisgender and heterosexual people to develop the government's overall approach to the rights of people of sexual and gender diversity demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of what is needed to ensure the rights of trans people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"Trans people are once again excluded from the conversation about their own needs despite being the best suited to meet them. There is so much expertise in our communities to ensure our well-being and safety. The government would never have formed a committee on abortion without women. The very existence of the Comit\u00e9 des sages is hurtful and misogynistic,\" denounces&nbsp;<strong>D\u00e9sir\u00e9e Duchesne, Community Organizer for TRAPs<\/strong><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the face of rising hatred and the global rollback of trans and non-binary rights, the coalition firmly believes that the time has come for action, not consultation. The coalition demands that the Legault government stop proposing compromises that call into question the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and fulfill its duty to protect minorities. It calls on the government to continue the work that has already begun in recent years and to rely on the expertise of trans organizations and experts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mobilization meetings, direct actions and training sessions will take place in the coming weeks in preparation for a major spring rally. \"We're organizing a&nbsp;<strong>big national demonstration in Montreal on March 31 for Trans Day of Visibility,<\/strong>&nbsp;\" announces&nbsp;<strong>Za\u00ebl Gourd, an activist with&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><em>Nous ne serons pas sages<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Nous ne serons pas sages&nbsp;<\/em>coalition is calling on all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and their allies to sign its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nnsps.pink-bloc.info\/en\/appel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manifesto<\/a>. Actions continue to be held in every region of Quebec, and we'll be mobilizing wherever hatred strikes,\" says&nbsp;<strong>Za\u00ebl Gourd<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<strong>Anne Cockerton, Project Manager at TransEstrie,<\/strong>&nbsp;\"The real threats here are hate crimes against 2SLGBTQIA+ people, which increase every year, and transphobia, which is responsible for half of all trans teenagers having contemplated suicide. The danger does not lie in the existence of trans rights and the availability of healthcare to defend them.\" They highlight that \"whereas this had previously never been the case in Quebec, the gender transition of minors has become the subject of a political debate.
